This year I will actually be spending a good portion of my Fourth Of July at work. Yup, exercising my right to make money. But while I have the time, in the wee hours of the morning, I will continue my holiday tradition of celebrating with a series of my cinematic favorites. These ones are special, they represent freedom to me, and I believe if anyone else watched them together as I am they would indeed recognize that theme as well.
The list is simple and contains some of my favorites of all time as of yet unlisted in my Favorite Films series...
1. Yojimbo
Man creates his own freedom.
2. The Thief Of Bagdad
The lowest of the low can free the highest of the high (I see you laughing.)
3. The Searchers
"Stand aside."
4. Lost Horizon
If the journey frees the man, the man must take the journey... no matter what!
Since I have so little time to enjoy this marathon, I'd like to pass this along to you the readers. If you have any good ideas for flicks that touch on this subject (no matter how obscure), go ahead and list 'em.
Cinephiles have found a way to enjoy their freedom... movies set us free.
Well, 1776 comes to mind. Blythe Danner's awfully hot in it, and William Daniels is just so awesome. Milk, of course. Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, wherein the kids free their voices by joining choir. Freedom Writers, if we really wanna get literal.
